Tianjin Medical University

Tianjin Medical University (TMU) is a medical university second to none in China. It is aiming to become a world recognized research type medical institution, committed to cultivating medical expertise through high-quality educational programs.

TMU is located in the center of Tianjin, with one campus on Qixiangtai Road, and the other on Guangdong Road. Tianjin is one of the most important economic centers in the north of China, it is also an international port city to the southeast of Beijing, half an hour's train ride from Beijing. Established in 1951, TMU is a medical institution of higher education approved by the Chinese Government after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Its founder was Professor Xianyi ZHU, an internationally recognized endocrinologist. In the past more than 60 years, TMU has been dedicated to quality medical education, research and medical treatment. In 1996, TMU became the only local "211 Project" university in Tianjin. In 2017, TMU was included in the "World Wide First Class Discipline" development universities.

With university hospitals included, TMU currently has 8518 professionals of various fields, including 672 professors and 1232 associate professors. There are two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, an academician of the Chinese Academyof Science and an academician from overseas. TMU has 19 schools and two teaching departments, covering disciplines including Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology, Public Health and Nursing. A total of 10301 students (doing full time undergraduate study or above) are studying in the university, among them 5331 are undergraduates, 3296 are Master's students, 657 are Ph.D students, with 1017 international students doing their degrees.

TMU adopts an education model of integrating systematic courses delivery with practical work at the hospitals. Every year, there are around 310 new undergraduate students joining courses of clinical medicine, where they can cultivate the expertise, attitude and knowledge required to become a doctor. TMU provides a quality environment to cultivate about 520 MDs or Ph.Ds of Clinical Medicine, to train them to become topnotch medical practitioners with a solid foundation of medical knowledge, as well as with sound skills of clinical research and practice. Every year, TMU receives more than 200 international students from more than 10 countries around the world, and has become an ideal destination for international medical education in China.
