    Study at Vitebsk State Medical University

    Students enrolled at the University will be admitted to the Preliminary Training Course. This is 10 months study program to learn Russian language and basic subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Students who successfully pass all the exams after the Preliminary Training Course are transferred to the 1st year of the basic faculties.

    The students who want to study in English medium are admitted directly to the 1st year without Preliminary Training Course, but they will get a chance to study Russian as an international language.

    The academic year starts on September 1 and ends at the beginning of July. The full course consists of 12 terms at the Medical Faculty and 10 terms at the Pharmaceutical Faculty. At the end of each term the students take the examinations. There are 10-15 days of winter vacations. Summer vacation (July-August) lasts for two months. Within the two months vacations students can go home or to other countries of the world.

    There are three basic faculties at the University: Medical Faculty, Pharmaceutical Faculty and Stomatological Faculty. The full course at the Medical Faculty lasts for 6 years. It consists of pre-clinical (2 years) and clinical course (4 years). The future doctors get professional training in 12 teaching hospitals and in the Regional Diagnostic Center where they have a good possibility to learn modern diagnostic and treatment facilities under the supervision of professors. Our graduates are certified as general practitioners and are awarded the title of Doctor of Medicine.

    Studies at the Pharmaceutical Faculty lasts for 5 years. The training course includes basic chemical and biological subjects. The practical work serves in the modern-equipped chemical, technological and pharmaceutical laboratories as well as in the fields where more than 400 kinds of herbs and plants are grown. On the other hand 142 pharmacies and the chemical-and-pharmaceutical plant "Vitpharm" help to train the high qualified and skilled specialists. The course is considered completed when the final examinations are passed and the degree thesis is defended. The graduates are certified as pharmacists and are awarded the title of Magister of Pharmacy.

    Studies at the Stomatological Faculty lasts for 5 years. The training course includes basic medical subjects.

    Vitebsk Medical University offers a traditional European-style curriculum. The teaching process includes lectures, seminars, laboratory and practical studies. A student rating is performed by computer tests and examinations. During the clinical course the students have the possibility to participate in the whole range of diagnostic and treatment procedures at the teaching hospitals. They take part in teaching rounds, examination of patients, clinical demonstrations, taking case history, case conferences, etc. An important and integral part of the education is the supervised hospital practice of the students. The program of education in Vitebsk Medical University meets requirements of international standards.

    Accommodation

    Vitebsk State Medical University has 5 comfortable student's hostels with well organized services: laundry, kitchen, cafeteria, student cafe, post office, Internet, spots club, big super market near the students' hotel and so on. Prices for accommodation and meals are reasonable, rates per year are 75-100 US$ in average and depend on the level of conditions (separate rooms, single or double occupancy). The halls of residence are situated near the University and major units. The University cafes, restaurants are situated in their neighborhood.

    Medical check charges are 35-50 US$. The Medical Insurance fee is 85 US$ per year.

    Students from India, Nepal, Srilanka, Pakistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh have to pay only communal charges for hostels, but gas, electricity and hot water are free for them.

    Application and Admission Procedure

    Foreign students who intends to enter the University must have a complete secondary education certified by an educational document (Certificate/Diploma) entitling access to a higher education institutions. Applicants for undergraduate training courses are to submit the following documents:
    • Certified photocopy of the accomplished secondary education documents (Diploma/Certificate);
    • Medical Certificate;
    • Certified copies of passport (main passport data) and Birth Certificate;
    • 12 passport-size (4_6 cm) photos;
    • Letter of Recommendation from the Embassy, graduates of the University, Medical Association, practitioners, school principals (optional);
    • Entrance Application forms (2 copies), may be filled in on your arrival.
