The Medical University is situated in the capital of the Republic of Belarus - in Minsk. Minsk is one of the ancient cities; it was founded in 1167. It is a city with great historical and cultural past. Minsk is the main cultural and industrial center and one of the most beautiful cities in Belarus.

Architectural Medicine ensembles of its avenues and squares, ideal cleanness of its streets, luxuriant greenery of its gardens and parks stretching on the banks of the Svisloch and its tributaries and historical monuments, old districts and recently built new blocks of building give the city inimitable charm and color. Minsk is a big scientific center. The numerous buildings of the National Academy of Sciences, Scientific Research and Project Institutes and more than 20 Higher School are located in the city. There are also 10 professional theatres, numerous museums and exhibition galleries. In adornment of the city are its parks - Yanka Kupala, Gorky, Chelyuskintsy, the Central Botanic Gardens and others.

Today Minsk is the capital of the sovereign independent country. It is greatly involved in international activities. There are many buildings of foreign Embassies, banks and offices in it. Year by year Minsk is growing and becoming more beautiful.

The Medical University is the oldest and biggest educational establishment in our Republic. Its glorious history began in 1921 when Belarussian State University with the department of medicine as a part of it was founded.

However, as an independent educational entity the Belarussian State Medical University has been functioning since 1930.

The Medical University is the largest constantly developing higher school in the Republic of Belarus. Nowadays the University comprises 18 scientific research laboratories and 55 chairs; about 5000 students there. Teaching and research work is carried out by more than 700 Professors and Lecturers and about 150 research workers. Wonderful traditions and great scientific school have been formed at the University. Material and technical basis of the University is constantly growing, facilities for studies and fruitful scientific work are becoming better. Practical studies are held at the best hospitals, which gives the opportunity to introduce the most advanced teaching methods. The students are trained at 6 faculties: General, Pediatrics, Military Medicine, Dentistry, Preventive Medicine and the Faculty for Foreign Students.
