Ningxa Medical College, founded in 1958, is the unique higher learning medical institution of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It was merged into Ningxia University in 1963. In the year of 1972, Ningxa Medical College was reestablished by the combination of Shanghai railway Medical College, Ningxa Medical College begin to manage its own independent development.

In October 2002, the new Ningxa Medical College was established by the combination with Ningxia health school and Ningxia Nursing School.

The college covers an area of 455 hectares with a construction area of 147,260 sq.m.

Ningxa Medical College, offers 6 levels of teaching programs for the postgraduates, undergraduates , three-year training students, adult education students, higher vocational technological education students and secondary specialized students.

The Affiliated Hospital of Ningxia Medical College covers an area of 110 000 square meters Today the hospital has 1244 ward s and a staff of over 2000. Among them 1389 are technical personnel, including 274 high-leveled professionals 454 mid - level professionals. The Dept of cardiovascular medicine & surgery neurological medicine & surgery tumor medicine & surgery burns healing, X - ray radiotherapy etc. have the best technical forces in the Region. The hospital can perform some very complicated operations, such as open 1~art surgery, cardiac valve replacement and transplantation, excision of cerebral, kidney transplants replantation of severed limbs fingers and toes removal of vertebral discs,. with discscope etc Some of the operations are new initiatives in the Region some of thesn~ming up to the national standards. In 1996 the hospital evaluated as the first one to reach the highest level among the third - grade hospitals.

The College has 3 teaching hospitals as well as over 20 preventative medicine stations and hospitals in towns and other cities that provide the basis for the intern practice of students.

Ningxa Medical College offers the finest laboratories which helps the student to concentrate more on his chosen topics. The laboratories exhibit the finest instruments and a dedicated staff to assist students throughout.

Covering an area of 2500 square meters, the college library provides a collection of 200, 000 books. Besides 42, 000 categories of bound periodicals, the library has 1004 Chinese journals & 658 foreign periodicals The information on the above - mentioned collection has been brought into the index system of the nationwide computer net The library has 3 reading rooms open simultaneously The students reading rooms are op~is82 hours per week and during 8 hours each day it is possible to borrow books from the stack room The average annual number of readers is 30 thousand The two publication of the College "Ningxia Medical School Magazine" and "Ningxia Medical Journal" are well accepted all over the country. The new library of the college is under the construction.
